Hello Internutterz!

Balphy here with another movie review! The movie tonight is Skyline.

The previews for skyline really got me wondering how amazing and exciting the movie was going to be. Im not a big fan of Alien abductions and what not but the way the trailers made it out to be i thought it would be an interesting watch. So I went to see the movie and I must say that I was highly dissappointed. I guess I am just one of those people that bases a movie on its trailer.. gotta stop doing that.

Why dont I like it? Well in my opinion it was nothing but a rather long intro. Now if they come out with a Skyline 2 then I think they did a fair job with the movie, though I wouldnt give it more than a 3/5.

The movie’s story line is very simple actually. It starts with the aliens sending down bright lights down to earth to various locations to abduct humans. It shows how one of the characters gets sucked in and then it takes us back about 15 hours ago. It then shows the movie about events leading up to the alien invasion or so I thought. Instead those events are in no way related to anything with the aliens and as to why they are invading. The aliens ome. They start abducting people by the hordes. The army sends their best at them. It is no good. They beat everyone. They get nuked. They survive it and basically render the army useless. I wont give away the ending because something cool does happen. But all in all it was the stupidest movie of the year. The movie had no heads or tail. The story was boring and didnt even try to gain my attention for long because there was way too much drama involved. Rather than focus on the main movie which I’m guessing are the aliens invading earth, they focus on the relationship problems the main characters are going through.

I give Skyline a 1/5 just because it had cool effects.

Review of Hereafter

Hello internutterz!

Balphy here with another movie review. As you all know Hereafter starring matt damon is out. I went to see it today and I must say it wasn’t what I expected. That in my opinion is a good thing. All round I would give the movie a 4/5. Why? Read on and I’ll tell you the story.

The movie is about 3 people who live in different worlds yet they have one thing in common; death. Due to an illness in his youth, George (Matt Damon) had to undergo a complicated surgery. At the end of the surgery he was a different person. It seems that during the surgery he died a few times. Now he is haunted and burdened by these visions. Later he realises what they are and thinks of it as a curse.

The other two characters are Marie Lele, a french talk show host who survives a Tsunami. I must say that the way they portrayed the tsunami it was breathtaking on the big screen and yet it was terrifying. I could almost picture myself standing there as the ocean flooded the shores and rushed at me. It seems that during the flood Marie dies for some time and experiences an interesting phenomenon.

Our third character is a young boy by the name of Marcus. Lucky for him he doesn’t die but rather his twin brother Jason dies. 

The movie shows the journey of these three characters and how they come to accept who they are and cope with their experiences with death. Though it may sound boring I will say that it made me think.

I already believe in an after life and yet this movie put it in a different perspective. It showed how people take certain things for granted and yet they know that death fast approaches everything.

Clint Eastwood, director of Hereafter, does an amazing job in portraying his heroes in their lives. The suffering of a brother, the confusion of a curious reporter and the worries of a man gifted to ease others pain. 

Some people cannot let go of the dead. Some don’t care enough. Others have had near death experiences. How do you fit in?

Salt Movie Review

Hello internutterz!

Last night I went to see the movie Salt. I don’t know why but for whatever reason there hasn’t been any great movies this summer. Sure there were a few good ones but no great ones. Salt was no different. 

The plot for Salt was so predictable that those who actually paid attention to the trailers could actually have guessed what would happen at the end. I was hoping that since it was an angelina jolie movie the bar would be much higher. I give it a 3.5 out of 5.

The plot summary is basically that there is a russian organisation that recruits and trains young kids to be assassins. These people are responsible for assassinations like the JFK assassination. They plant sleepers amongst their targets and then they use them to strike from within. They kidnap americans and then replace them with russians. I did like this concept and was hoping that there would be much more to offer.

Salt is one of these kids but she defects from the organisation because she fals in love with someone. I’m not going to give up the main twist but I will say that you can figure out the movie within 30 mins of the movie. The main boss fight lasts 3 secs. The traitor dies easily without a chase or anything. It was just a dull movie.

Karate Kid Review

Hello my fellow internutterz!

Before I start this review I give you all fare warning that I will include *SPOILERZ*. So if you are the type that doesnt like spoilerz then please read no further.

Ok so I went to see Karate Kid Starring Jackie Chan (a.k.a The new Mr. Miyagi) and Jaden Smith. If I were to describe the movie in one word I would definetly say EPIC! But then there would be no reason for a blog if I was only to use one word.

The movie begins with Dre (Jaden Smith) moving to China because his mother got a transfer due to her job working in the car manufacturing industry. Once in China, Dre makes an aqcuaintance with an english speaking fellow who gives Dre a piece of advice to learn some chinese now that he is living in China. Dre goes and hangs out at the playground and “plays” basketball but makes a fool of himself. I thought that bit was kinda cute cuz every new kid likes to act all tough when in actuality he/she knows nothing about the task at hand. While he is making a fool of himself he keeps looking at a cute chinese chick who is quietly sitting on a bench listening to Bach (Amazing Classical Violin)

Anyways, he finally plucks the courage to go and introduce himself and soon enough *insert dramatic evil music* Enter Mr. Bully. Now usually asians dont seem to open their eyes much but DAMN! these chinese kids when they scowl or get pissed their eyes are wide open! lol!

Well the next half hour or so is your usual bully verses new kid routine. I must say I did like the little prank Dre pulled on them. And of course Mr. Miyagi enters to save his life and take him in as a student. There was an interesting plot twist that happens but I guess they needed to find a way to get a scrawny kid like Dre into the tournament somehow. Of course once he becomes the student of Mr. Miyagi he trains, enters the tourney and wins.

Now for those who have seen the original Karate Kid here are some similarities that you will see.

First off, There is a bully involved. The bully has a teacher who is a straight up dick. They train and instead of doing house hold chores as training, Dre takes his jacket off and puts it back on. And finally Dre beats the Bully using The Crane technique (in this case the Cobra-staring-at-you-and-getting-inside-your-head technique).

All in all the movie was awesome. I did not do justice to the movie with this review mostly because there is a second story in the movie that you will just have to see to enjoy. It is what brings everything together.
